What’s the FCO advice on travelling to Greece?
If you’re travelling to Greece, check the latest travel advice where Covid-19 restrictions are concerned and be prepared for plans to change at the last minute.
Greece is generally safe for tourists and business travellers, but you need to be vigilant of passport, wallet, and bag thefts on the metro and in crowded tourist spots, particularly in the bigger cities and especially Athens.
You should take the same safety precautions you do at home, and it’s a good idea to leave such valuables in a safe box in your accommodation. It’s important to keep your valuables out of sight when driving and never on an empty seat. And keep your vehicle locked at all times.
You can drive in Greece with a UK driving licence.
Never approach or take photos of military bases in Greece as you will be arrested and might be prosecuted.
You need to have photo ID with you at all times, so it’s a good idea to take a photocopy of your passport around and leave the real thing in a safe at your accommodation.
